19. Ground Arrival
Aim
To conduct after landing taxi in, arrival/engine shutdown, post-flight and flight close procedures as appropriate.
Description
The candidate will demonstrate the ability to manoeuvre the aircraft under its own power to an arrival area for parking, shut down the engine(s) and ancillary systems and conduct required post flight procedures such as securing the aircraft.
Performance Criteria
(06/2017 FTG p.40) Assess on the candidate’s ability to:
- demonstrate proficiency by maintaining correct and positive control;
- consider the safety of nearby persons or property by maintaining proper look-out, spacing between aircraft and obstructions;
- accomplish the applicable checklist items and performs the recommended procedures;
- maintain the desired taxi speed;
- comply with instructions issued by ATC (or the examiner simulating ATC);
- observe runway hold lines, localizer and glide slope critical areas, and other surface control markings and lighting to prevent a runway incursion;
- maintain constant vigilance and aeroplane control during the taxi operation; and
- record forms/logs and flight time/discrepancies.
Commenting a "1"
- Taxi performed away from yellow taxi path.
- Excessive use of thrust/brakes during taxi.
- Did not perform Brake Check as per SOP before engaging the aircraft on the gate path.
- Taxi without clearance.
- Entered apron area while both pilots busy with secondary tasks. No outside vigilance.
- Did not follow taxi clearance resulting in ATC prompt/ground conflict.
- Did not stay clear of active runway as per taxi instructions.
- Did not consider/apply low visibility taxi procedures as per SOP.
- Taxi performed while attention focused inside the cockpit.
- Inadequate spacing with other aircraft.
- Performed abnormal checklist while taxiing; contrary to SOP.
- Did not enter known snags in logbook as per SOP (AC 0107R, CAR 605, CASS 625.09/10).
- Did not enter flight in log book (CAR 605.97, Schedule I).
Commenting a "2"
- Taxi path occasionally diverted from yellow line prompting calls from other crewmember.
- Occasional misuse of thrust/brakes during taxi.
- Taxi clearance misunderstood or read back incorrectly generating confusion requiring a stop and clarification.
- Cockpit discipline generated a momentary deviation from taxi clearance that required support from other crewmember.
- Outside vigilance is sometimes disrupted by secondary tasks.
- Attempted to taxi with park brake ON. Park brake released after prompt from other CM.
- Confusion regarding company policy on snag recording requiring input from other CM.
